Just Skate ‘Em

“Just Skate Em” was a piece I did for my application to the graphic design program at CalPoly. In my high-school years, I spent a lot of time on my skateboard and often was bothered by the idea of people getting shoes that are meant for skating, and not putting them to use.

When the Nike SB x Jordan 4 Pine Green’s released, I instantly needed a pair. The combination of the Kelly green with the subtle hints of brown and gray caught my eye and was one of the most attractive shoes I had seen. I wanted to create a sort of fake campaign that would motivate buyers of this shoe to put it to use, and skate them, as that is what these shoes were intended for.

I wanted to put a little twist on the famous Just Do It slogan and made it more focused on the art of skateboarding. Below are some photos of the process, including some initial sketches of the text design as well as the original photo I took of my roommate wearing the shoes. In post production I utilized both Illustrator and Photoshop to create the text, add texture, and put gradients on the whole thing.
